United Airlines & Continental Airlines Combine

This past Monday it was announced that United Airlines and Continental will combine to create a mega-airline. This merger is combining in a 3 billion dollar deal. This action of conmbining the two airlines is said to save a lot of money over the years. This will also form the worlds largest airline. In the merge, United Airlines will carry on the name and Continental will keep their logo.

In my opinion, I think that Continental got the short end of the stick. United Airlines gets to keep the name and everyone will know the new airline as United Airlines. I think that it would be better to keep the name rather than the logo. More people know the airlines by their acutal name rather than their logo. Although this isn't really an important matter because they are combining and are now equal, I still feel as if Continental did not benefit as much as United Airlines did.

  1. I agree with Molly. They could have integrated the names a bit but they may get more profit. I'm sure Continental will get some extra income from them.

  2. I think that the companies did the right thing to combine together. This way they will not have to compete against eachother for fairs and passenger. Also they will be able to combine their different flights together so that they can become a bigger corporation that can send people a ton of places. This deal have been very smart in such a economically chanllenging time. They don't want to have to have all sorts of competitive problems so they made a great decision

  3. It seems like American Airlines are being a buncha jerks here. AT LEAST think of a new name so everyone can agree on something, instead of playing "Eeny-Meeny-Meiny-Mo" with names (I hope I spelled that phrase right.) So now we'll all just give all credit to American Airlines without realizing that Continental had a huge part in it as well.

  4. I agree with Molly about maybe doing something with the names somehow. I also think that if a logo is catchy then it's just as good as a name. Them combinning the companies is a good idea, but of the economy and their budgets.

  5. I agree with Jessica. The airline is always known by the name, if they compromised on a new name then it would be more fair in that aspect. I do think it is a good idea to combine the companies because in the long run it will save money.
