Santa Clara County in California became the first in the nation to ban toys from fast food kids' meals high in calories, fat, and sugar. This ordinance limits toys on items over 200 calories or more than 480 milligrams of sodium. This has caused some people to talk about whether this is a good idea or a bad idea.
Personally, I think that this is a good idea. Why would fast food restaurants put a toy in a meal that isn't even healthy? In a way, it is persuading the kids. They are basically saying, you can have this toy if you buy this meal. It would be different if the meal was healthy, however, it isn't. Kids shouldn't be rewarded with a toy for eating a meal that has over 300 calories in it, and that is why I think that this county in California is doing the right thing.

Last week, it was announced that the Butler guard, Gordon Hayward, entered his name into the NBA draft. Although, Hayward hasn't hired an agent yet, so he is still eligible to return to college basketball. Everyone is curious as to what decision Gordon Hayward will make, and how it will affect the Butler basketball team next year, if he does decide to enter the NBA.
I don't know very much about college basketball and specifically Butler basketball, but from watching them in the NCAA tournament, I saw how well everyone worked together. They brought a sense of unity to their team, and the entire state of Indiana when they kept advancing farther into the tournament. Gordon Hayward was a big part of this Butler basketball team. He is very good, but I think, along with a lot of other people too, that he should stay another year or so to continually learn and become even better. And, who knows, maybe if he stayed, Butler could have another chance to win a NCAA title. My personal opinion is that he should stay, and get even better through the next year, and then go into the NBA.

This past few months, the entire world has been experiencing some pretty weird natural disasters. It seems that a week cannot go by without a huge 7.0 magnitude earthquake, strong wind storm, landslide, tsunami, and such. This has been bringing up the question of "Is the world coming to an end?", and all different types of questions like this. I don't believe that these events have anything to do with the end of the world.
Just like we talked about it class, the earth is constantly changing and shifting. I'll admit that it is pretty weird that there have been so many earthquakes, and not just tiny ones. But, it is normal for earthquakes to occur because the earth is constantly moving, shifting, and changing, so things like this are bound to happen. However, I think that this may be a sign that we should to more to take care of our earth and have ways and plans for how to handle situations like this. When the first big earthquake in Haiti took place this year, everyone was shocked and didn't know how to handle the situation. I think that since earthquakes are common, and they have been occurring in more populated areas, we should come up with a earthquake-relief plan so we can help in some way, and show that we as a nation are there for support. And, I think that in return other countries do the same.

This past week, Indianapolis has had a huge amount of excitement. Although Indianapolis has hosted the a NCAA Final Four and championship game before, we have never had a home team in the championship game. The weekend, and early week was filled with preparation for the big game.
The entire city of Indianapolis put so much focus on Butler. Pretty much the entire state was excited for Butler, and the Bulldog players and team were very grateful for the attention they received. The outcome of the game wasn't what anyone wanted. Pretty much the entire state was disappointed, and proud at the same time. The question I have is, does playing in the same state and somewhat having a "home court advantage" help or hurt the team? I think that this could go both ways. The city definitely put an extreme focus on how much of an accomplishment this was for Butler and the state of Indiana. I feel like this may have put extra pressure of the team to do well and win, so that they could be even more happy, and make the state happy as well. However, this extra emphasis put on Butler could have also pushed them to continue on, and defeat Michigan St. in the Final Four game, which lead to the championship game. Either way, Butler definitely played their hearts out and deserved the respect and applause that they received at the end of the championship game. One thing is for sure, everyone is excited for what is to come next year with the Butler Bulldogs.

On Monday, Indiana became the 14th state to challenge the health reform law. Indiana, along with the other states, are raising constitutional questions about the new legislation. The main reason being the fact that Congress does not have the right to force people to buy health insurance, and then pay a fine if they do not buy it.
I agree with the States stance on this issue. Why should people who don't want health care or do not need health care be forced to buy it. The people are free do what they wish with the money they earn, and if they do not need health care, they should not be forced to have it. And then, after that, they are punished for not having something that they do not want or need. I don't see how spending billions of dollars on a health care plan, that will only help some people, is good for our country. What is the point of doing that, especially when not everyone agrees. I know that not everyone is going to see eye-to-eye on everything, but when entire states are challenging the law, I think that something more should be done.
