March 14th Blog

This past week, we talked about the student, Eric Workman, who is suing his own school for the prayer that will be said at his own graduation ceremony. Eric Workman says that this prayer violates his First Amendment right to freedom of religion.

I feel that this student is taking this too far. Eric Workman is ranked first in his class, and when someone who will be sitting on the stage is suing the school for something that is going on during the ceremony, it definitely draws more attention to the issue. The students voted on whether or not the prayer should be said. The vote was in favor of the prayer being said. I feel that although, some people may have a problem with a prayer being said, it truly shouldn't be that big of a deal. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Everyone has the freedom to believe whatever they want. However, when majority rules in favor of a prayer being said, I don't see what the issue is. It is something that will take up like two minutes, and it shouldn't be the huge deal that it is turning into. If a lawsuit is going to happen over the prayer, it should just be dropped and forgotten about in order to save the drama surrounding it.
